Storybook Circus is actually part of Fantasyland, but it is off in it’s own section. Although it is still fantasy, it has different theming than the rest of Fantasyland. It is not connected to any of the other lands or the central hub. This used to be “Mickey’s ToonTown Fair,” but it was completely redone along with the big Fantasyland expansion. It opened in 2012, as Storybook Circus. This whole area is themed like a circus and is inspired by the movie Dumbo. Overall, this land is catered toward a younger audience, but adults will enjoy the fun atmosphere and may want to experience one of the most famous attractions of the Magic Kingdom.

Attractions

  • The Barnstormer – Board a 1920’s stunt plain and fly 30 feet in the air on this junior roller coaster. This roller coaster caters to younger kids, but older kids and adults can ride as well.

  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant – There are several spinner-style attractions in Walt Disney World, but this is the original. There are actually two carousels, side by side, that spin in opposite directions, and you get to control how high you fly.

Dining

Storybook circus doesn’t have any actual restaurants, but there are several places to find snacks. The snack carts are themed like circus train cars, and they all offer the kinds of snacks that you would expect at a circus.

  • Popcorn & Ice Cream Cart – This cart offers popcorn, cotton candy, cinnamon-glazed almonds, and frozen treats.

  • Pretzel Cart – Mickey Pretzels are the main offering here, but you’ll also find churros, cinnamon-glazed almonds, chips, and bottled beverages.

  • Hot Dog Cart – If you are in need of a quick lunch, this cart offers hot dogs, chips, and bottled beverages.

  • Big Top Treats – Located inside of Big Top Souvenirs, there are all kinds of sweet treats in here as well. You’ll find cookies, slushies, candy apples, cake pops, fudge, fruits, brownies, cupcakes, and more! You can even watch some of the treats being made right in front of you!

Shopping

  • Big Top Souvenirs – You’ll feel like you are walking inside of a circus tent in this unique story. This story has plenty of merchandise including pins, hats, clothes, and more! It also contains lots of sweet treats, as this is where Big Top Treats is.

Characters

  • Pete’s Silly Sideshow – This is where the characters hang out in Storybook Circus. You’ll find Goofy and Donald on one side and Daisy and Minnie on the other side.

Other Entertainment

  • Casey Jr.’s Splash ‘N’ Soak Station – A fun area for little kids to cool down, this Casey Junior train is a fun splash zone for your kids to play in and cool down.

  • Walt Disney World Railroad – This is one of three stops for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Hop in here if you need to get to Main Street or Frontierland, or if you just want to take a ride around the park.

Conclusion

Although not an official land, this sub land of Fantasyland has a lot to offer, particularly if you have younger kids. You’ll find popular characters, sweet treats, and one of the iconic, opening day attractions of the Magic Kingdom (Dumbo). It is easy to skip this area, as it is off to the side, so don’t forget to include it in your plans if it is an area you want to experience.
